to Apply for Financial Aid
The University of Arkansas awards approximately $74 million of assistance
each year to eligible students in the form of scholarships, student
loans, grants, and work-study. More than 63 percent of University students
rely
on financial assistance to meet the cost of tuition, room, board, and
other expenses. For more information visit the U

Additional scholarships and financial assistance are available through
the School of Architecture. More than 60 awards and scholarships are
available exclusively to architecture and landscape architecture students
each year.
These funds can be applied to tuition fees, international study, leadership
opportunities, and the cost of supplies. To learn more about School of

Scholarships
Over 60 merit and need-based scholarships are awarded by the School of
Architecture to support foreign travel and other expenses. Most are awarded
annually on the basis of recommendations made by the Honors and Awards
Committee of the School of Architecture. For more information on specific

All-School Scholarships
Annual Fund Alumnus Award
Funded by School of Architecture alumni, this scholarship is awarded
to one to two students at any level, to be used for international study
in
one of the School's sanctioned programs.
John G. Williams Traveling Fellowship
Funds raised in honor of Professor John G. Williams support a student
project of genuine educational worth involving travel.
The Michael J. Buono Sustainability Scholarship
Established through a contribution by Michael J. Buono, this award is
for an incoming fourth- or fifth-year student who has demonstrated the
greatest
concern in the design studios, cognate courses, and the community for
environmental, ecological and energy conservation issues.
Pella Student Essay Award
Sponsored by the Pella Window & Door Company, this award is given
to the student who submits the best essay.
Professional Advisory Board Fifth Year Scholarship
Established by the Professional Advisory Board, this scholarship recognizes
an incoming fifth-year student who exhibits hard work, perseverance,
and dedication and has great potential for success in the profession.
Freshman Scholarships
Herbert Thomas Memorial Academic Scholarship
The School of Architecture offers one Herbert Thomas Memorial Academic
Scholarship each year to an entering freshman in either the architecture
or landscape architecture programs with outstanding high school records
and ACT/SAT scores. It is renewable if the recipient maintains a 3.0
cumulative GPA. Recipient must carry a minimum of fourteen hours of work
each semester.
The Mary Pipkin & Yandell Johnson Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is given each year in the memory of Mary Pipkin Johnson.
It is made initially to a freshman entering the School of Architecture
and is based on high school performance and promise of professional ability.
The recipient is designated as the Mary Pipkin Johnson Scholar, with
the scholarship continuing as long as a 3.0 or better GPA is maintained
by
the recipient. Typically two scholarships are generated by this scholarship
endowment.
Professional Advisory Board Freshman Scholarship
The Professional Advisory Board of the School of Architecture has established
this scholarship to attract an outstanding entering freshman to the School
of Architecture. It is available to a high school senior who has shown
outstanding academic achievement.
Department of architecture scholarships
Acme Brick Competition
Every year the Acme Brick Corporation sponsors a design competition for
third-year architectural students. Three recipients will be chosen in
May.
The Arkansas Subcontractors Association Scholarship
The Arkansas Subcontractors Association awards this scholarship to architecture
students in their second year of study who have a background in construction.
The C. Murray Smart Rome Program Award
Established to further support the Rome travel program, this award is
given to a third-year student who has excelled in the three required
history
courses.
Cyrus Sutherland Historic Preservation Alliance Scholarship
This award is presented to a student in the School of Architecture or
the Architectural Studies program who has demonstrated interest in historic
preservation.
E. Fay Jones Traveling Scholarship
The Arkansas AIA Chapter Endowment Fund funds this scholarship, which
is awarded to the third-year architecture student with the highest overall
and design GPA.
EFCO Rome Travel Awards
Each year three to six awards are available to students who will participate
in the Rome Program during the next academic year. This scholarship is
based on academic success and need.
The Ernest N.Pettit, Jr., Memorial Scholarship
Given by the AIA Educational Endowment Fund to recognize the support
of the Pettit & Pettit firm of Little Rock, this scholarship is awarded
annually to the architecture student with the highest scholastic average
entering the third year of professional training.
Ft. Smith Section of the Arkansas Chapter of the AIA Scholarship
The scholarship is available to residents of the Ft. Smith metropolitan
area and is based on scholarship and other criteria.
Frank Naylor Prize
The Frank Naylor Prize for achievement is given annually to an outstanding
student in third-year design and is given in memory of Frank Naylor,
a former student.
The Howard S. Eichenbaum-Frank J. Erhart Memorial Scholarship Established
through contributions made in memory of the honorees and given by the
AIA Education Endowment fund, this scholarship is awarded each year to
the
architecture student with the highest scholastic average entering the
final year of professional training.
Irving N. Hepner Scholarship
This scholarship established in memory of Irving N. Hepner is awarded
each year to a third-year student who exhibits potential for success
in the
practice of architecture.
Jerry C. Wilcox Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Jerry Wilcox, architect, alumni and friend,
this scholarship is presented to an architecture student in the third
or fourth
year of study who is dedicated to community and/or campus involvement.
Selection should also be based on at least a 3.0 GPA and financial need.
Mason Contractors Scholarship
From a list of qualified applicants provided by the School of Architecture
Scholarship Committee, the Arkansas Chapter of the Mason Contractors
Association of America will choose two scholarship recipients. Selection
of a student
one year does not exclude him/her from consideration in following years.
Northwest Section, Arkansas Chapter, AIA Scholarship
For the member of AIAS who has preformed willing service to the School
and its students.
The Paul H. Seiz Memorial Travel Award
This award is established in memory of Mr. Paul Seiz. Recipient will
be an outstanding third-year student who demonstrates leadership, creativity,
intellectual curiosity and an eagerness to help others. Recipient must
use the award for travel to Rome.
Pella Second Year Outstanding Design Award
This award, sponsored by the Pella Window & Door Company, will be
given for design achievement to an architecture student in the second
year studio.
Pella Fifth Year Outstanding Design Award
Fifth-year students are eligible to submit one project at the conclusion
of the spring semester for consideration. A jury will convene during
finals to select the winner. If more than one winner is selected, award
money
will be divided accordingly.
Ralph O. Mott Scholarship
An endowment gift by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation funds the Ralph
O. Mott Scholarship, which is awarded to upcoming fourth-year architecture
students with successful records in courses other than design.
Robert S. Laser Scholarship
Established in honor of Bob Laser, one of the five members of the first
graduating class from the School of Architecture. The recipient must
be a student in the School of Architecture and an Arkansas high school
graduate.
Sid Frier Scholarship
Established by the Trustees of the AIA Educational Endowment Fund in
memory of Sid Frier's many years of service to the profession of architecture.
Given annually to a worthy student in the School of Architecture. Renewable
if a 3.0 grade point average is maintained.
Valerie Turnage-Tucker Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Valerie Turnage-Tucker, this scholarship is
selected by peers and awarded to a member of the AIAS who has devoted
numerous hours
to School activities and service to fellow students. More than one
student may be selected.
William M. Evans Memorial Scholarship
Established by Donald W. Evans, AIA in honor of his father, William
M. Evans, this scholarships is awarded to an architecture student who
has
a strong work ethic and demonstrated commitment to the field of architecture.
The Wischmeyer Rome Travel Scholarship
Funded by 1998 graduate Michael Wischmeyer, this award is given to
a third-year student in architecture preparing to go to Rome in the
fourth
year.
The Wittenberg, Delony & Davidson Memorial Scholarship
Established by the Little Rock firm Wittenberg, Delony & Davidson,
this scholarship is for the architecture student with the highest scholastic
average entering the fourth year of professional training.
Department of Landscape Architecture Scholarships
Land Plan Consultants Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a landscape architecture student with
financial need who shows academic strength and great potential in the
profession.
Student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be enrolled as a full-time
student at the time of disbursement.
Neil Hamill Park Memorial Scholarship (ASLA)
The Neil Hamill Park Memorial Scholarship was established in memory
of landscape architect Neil Hamill Park and is given annually by the
Arkansas
chapter of ASLA
in conjunction with the student chapter in the School of Architecture. The
award is based on financial criteria and improvement in design ability
and is open
to students in the third and fourth years of the landscape architecture program
who are current members of ASLA student chapter and have a cumulative GPA
of 2.00+ with a previous semester GPA of 2.50+.
TORO Irrigation Scholarship
As part of an introductory irrigation seminar, third year landscape architecture
students in construction will compete on a basic irrigation design project.
The seminar & competition are sponsored by the Toro Company, Irrigation
Division.
Verna C. Garvan Scholarships
A bequest by Verna C. Garvan funds a number of scholarships in the
landscape architecture program:
Garvan European Travel Scholarships
Four scholarships to be used for the summer overseas program; based
primarily on need.
Garvan Rising Scholarships
For students in each level of study based on academic achievement and
need. Eight scholarships awarded each year.
Garvan Plant Identification and Planting Design Award
Awarded to student with the highest grade point average in at least
two of the plant identification and planting design courses offered
by the landscape
architecture
department.
Garvan Construction Technology Award
For the student with the highest grade point average in the construction
sequence.
Garvan Leadership Award
For the student who has inspired other students to strive for excellence
and has served as a role model in design studio. Also used to support
student travel
to academic conferences.

Used to support student travel to academic conference

Garvan Overseas Travel Award
For the student who submits the best essay and plans to study overseas.
