Mission Statement

The Tobacco Control Center of the University of Arkansas School of Law, Fayetteville is operated by the Tobacco Legal Clinic director, Professor M. Jacqueline Gaithe.

The goals of the Tobacco Legal Clinic are to offer the following community services:

  1. Provide legal policy analysis in the development of regulatory measures to control the sale and use of tobacco products and to control or eliminate the effects of environmental tobacco smoke;
  2. Assist state and local governmental agencies and community organizations in developing legislative and administrative strategies and drafting statutes, ordinances, local initiatives, and other measures to tax, control, or regulate the use or sale of tobacco products and to abate or eliminate the effects of environmental tobacco smoke;
  3. Provide state and local governmental units or agencies with legal analysis on matters pertaining to their authority to implement measures to tax or to control the sale and use of tobacco products and to abate or eliminate the effects of environmental tobacco smoke;
  4. Provide litigation support (including the evaluation and analysis of legal arguments, conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and briefs) to state and local governmental units or agencies whenever a tobacco control ordinance, local initiative, or other measure is judicially challenged; and
  5. Provide individuals with legal referrals in matters that involve environmental tobacco smoke or injuries that result from the use of tobacco products.

In an effort to create a more organized World Wide Web, the W3C has created many new Web layout standards. The key focus of their effort is to provide the best possible interoperability between the different browsing programs available.

In the days of the browser wars between Netscape and Microsoft, many hacks were propagated by the competing companies. However, today these hacks have done more to hurt the Web than to help the battling companies. By downloading and installing one of the programs listed above, the Web will be one step closer to eliminating these hacks and bugs.
