Dirk is an assistant professor in the Animal Science Department at the University of Arkansas. His work focuses on sustainable forage production and livestock management to minimize environmental impacts. A native of Germany, Dirk received an MS degree in tropical agriculture from the University of Leipzig and then moved to Nicaragua to work with small-scale cocoa farmers to improve soil and water conservation practices. Dirk then came to the US, and after a stint with an environmental consulting company in Massachusetts, he pursued a PhD degree in agronomy at Texas Tech University. Dirk worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Iowa State University prior to coming to Arkansas in April of 2007.
