Trails
Master Plan Adopted
and
First Major Funding Secured
June, 2005 - At the regular Rogers City Council meeting on June 15,
approval was given to the Rogers Greenway and Trails Master Plan
previously adopted by the Planning Commission on June
7.
The plan for a 50-mile greenway and trail system was presented to
the Council by landscape architect Jo Carole Haxel, who had prepared it
under contract to the city. Portions of the draft plan can be

A highlight of the Council meeting was the
"unveiling" of a $1 million one-for-two challenge grant from the Walton
Family Foundation. Rob Brothers, President and CEO of
Arvest Bank in Rogers made the annuncement.

the Trails meeting on
February 23, landscape
architect Jo Carole Haxel presented the first draft of several sections
of the Rogers Master Trail Plan. Click links below to view

According to a news report, "Haxel's plan includes
a variety of information
that will allow the document to be used for different purposes.
It
will provide a map and documentation of the system and its amenities to
allow for grant applications and marketing. It will provide
technical
data for developers on the standards of the hard-surface trail they
need
to meet if required to build it on floodway across their property.
"Currently, the city has a trail plan on its
master street plan, and
several miles are already planned or under construction based on areas
along Blossom Way that are being developed. The greenway would include
five trails: Blossom Way, Turtle Creek, Lake Atalanta, Osage Creek and
Mount Hebron area." The

Jan., 2005 - At the Trails meeting on
January 19, 2005, Luanne
Diffin reviewed the overall plan and introduced Jo Carole Haxel, who
conducted
a work session to determine groundrules for her design task, which
faces
a major milestone date in March. Please click

Dec., 2004 - A late December news article
summarized recent progress
in developing the Rogers trail system and reported that the Rogers City
Council had approved spending $15,580 to recruit landscape architect Jo
Carole Haxel to design the city's Master Trail Plan. The

June, 2004 - At a meeting on June 5, 2004 ,
the RG&T Steering
Committee reviewed a map of the Rogers Master Trail Loop,
traversing from downtown thru Turtle Creek on the North and thru
Blossom
Way Creek on the South. The committee had previously divided the
master trail into 17 trail sections. (See locator map by
selecting the Master Trail Loop menu button.) Next,
the committee resolved to determine the resources and funding needed to
complete each of the sections.
